How it works

  1. The upload drop zone.

    1 · Upload

Drop a PDF — a deck, brochure, report, or an export from Canva, InDesign, Illustrator or Office. Multi-page is fine.

  2. A “Converting…” spinner.

    2 · Convert

The engine reads the document — text, fonts, vectors and images — page by page. No prompt, no settings to tune.

  3. The Copy to Clipboard action.

    3 · Edit in Figma

With the plugin, pages land straight on your canvas, ready to edit. From the web app, copy the result and paste it into Figma — either way, fully editable layers, every page.

pdf.to.design vs the alternatives

Most PDF importers flatten each page into a single picture. pdf.to.design is purpose-built to rebuild a document as a Figma design, with editable layers instead of a static image. Here's how they compare.

How pdf.to.design compares with basic PDF importers when turning a PDF into a Figma design.
What you get back Basic PDF importers pdf.to.design
Text Flattened into the page image Real, editable Figma text
Fonts Lost Detected & mapped to yours
Vectors & shapes Rasterized Kept as editable vectors
Images Baked into one flat image Extracted as image fills
Pages One flat image per page Every page — stack H, V or grid
Page selection All or nothing Any range, e.g. 1-5, 8, 11-15
Output Static image in Figma Editable Figma layers

What gets converted

  • Editable text

Every text run comes back as a real Figma text layer you can retype, restyle and reflow — not an outline, not a picture.

PDF text imported as editable, selectable Figma text layers.
  • Fonts, matched

Fonts are detected and mapped to what you have in Figma, with a clear list of any that need substituting before import.

  • Images & graphics

Photos and embedded graphics are extracted as image fills; vector artwork stays as editable vectors.

Photos and graphics extracted from a PDF as separate layers.
  • Every page, laid out

Import all pages or just a range, and stack them horizontally, vertically or in a grid — the whole document, positioned for you.

The import dialog: page thumbnails, range and stacking options.

Dense, print-heavy PDFs may need light cleanup after import — but you start from real, editable layers, not a screenshot.
