What it is

fireworks.to.design converts Adobe Fireworks documents into editable Figma layers — pages as frames, editable text, vectors, bitmaps and symbols, not the flat picture a .fw.png shows everywhere else.

Option Output
Figma plugin Figma layers, converted locally in the browser
Web app Figma layers to copy and paste into Figma
API Figma layers or JSON — 4 formats total

What it does

Adobe Fireworks saved its documents as PNG files. Any viewer shows the first page, flattened; Fireworks itself reads the document it stored inside the same file — every page, layer, path, text run, bitmap and symbol. fireworks.to.design reads that document and rebuilds each page as a Figma frame: layers become groups, text stays editable, fills and gradients become native Figma paints, and symbol instances are expanded from the document's symbol library. It is a deterministic conversion: every import of a file produces the same result.

Where it runs

The plugin runs inside Figma — you'll need Figma open to use it (Figma Community). The conversion happens locally in the plugin: nothing is uploaded. See Privacy & processing.

The web app converts in the browser tab through the ‹div›RIOTS API and gives you the result to paste into Figma — nothing to install.

The ‹div›RIOTS API runs wherever you call it from — any backend or app that can make an HTTP request. Same converter, exposed as the fw input format. Full reference: ‹div›RIOTS API documentation.

Supported input formats

Category Formats
Adobe Fireworks .fw.png documents saved by Fireworks CS3–CS6

A file is recognised by what it holds, not its name: a PNG that carries a Fireworks document is accepted whatever it is called, and a .fw.png that was exported flat, or re-saved by another app, is refused with that reason — it has no layers left to import.

Output

Figma plugin

Every import produces fully editable Figma layers. Before converting, a dialog lets you choose the pages to import — all of them or a range such as 1-3,7 — and remap any fonts you don't have. Each page becomes a frame at its Fireworks canvas size and background colour.

Web app

Drop one or more .fw.png files; each converts to a Figma clipboard payload with a preview per page. Copy it and paste into Figma.

API

Four output formats are available for the fw input:

Output format What it is
figma-clipboard Data to load into the clipboard and paste onto the Figma canvas
figma-rest JSON, structurally compatible with the Figma REST API
figma-json Figma's JSON_REST_V1 node export
json JSON visual definition of the content (schema undocumented)

The API takes an optional range of pages; without one, every page is converted and laid out side by side, in the order of Fireworks' Pages panel.

Editability

Element How it imports
Pages & layers Each page a frame; each layer, group and mask group a Figma group, named as in Fireworks, hidden layers kept hidden.
Text Editable text, run by run: font, size, colour, leading, tracking, alignment, underline, strikethrough and all caps. Point text grows with its content; text blocks keep their width and wrap.
Vectors Editable vector paths with their fills — solid, linear, radial, conical — and strokes, dashes included. Rectangles import as rectangles.
Bitmaps Image fills at their original pixels.
Symbols Each instance expanded from the document's symbol library, with its own position and scale, as a group.
Effects Drop and inner shadows, glows, colour fills and the Photoshop live effects (colour and gradient overlays, strokes, shadows) as native Figma effects and paints.

A few Fireworks features have no Figma equivalent. Filters such as bevel, emboss, hue/saturation and sharpen import as the render Fireworks stored for that layer — right to the pixel, but a picture. Fireworks' faux bold becomes the font's bold face, and a baseline shift (raised or lowered characters) is not reproduced. Anything approximated is reported after import.

Limits

Limit Value
Accepted input PNGs that carry a Fireworks document
Max image dimension 4096px — Figma's limit; larger bitmaps are scaled down and reported
Free-tier pages First 3 pages per document
Max file size (free tier) 500 MB; uncapped on ‹div›RIOTS ONE
Not converted States beyond the first, slices and hotspots, baseline shift; bevel/emboss and colour-adjustment filters come across as a picture

Privacy & processing

The Figma plugin processes your files locally, on your machine:

  • The file is never uploaded. It is read and converted in the plugin.
  • Each import is counted against your plan: our convert API receives your Figma user ID and the file's name, not its contents.
  • Anonymous usage analytics are captured (on api.divriots.com) to improve the experience.
  • If an import fails, you can choose to send that one file for debugging — nothing is uploaded unless you click that button.

The web app and the API send the file to the ‹div›RIOTS API, where it is handled as per our privacy policy: processed in memory or ephemeral storage, retained at most 24 hours for debugging, then permanently deleted, and never used to train public AI models.

Pricing

Option Free tier Paid
Figma plugin & web app 5 imports (first 3 pages each), no card required Full imports draw on a shared ‹div›RIOTS ONE credit balance
API — Metered per call; see the API documentation for the fw input's price

One subscription for every ‹div›RIOTS product — fireworks.to.design included — with a shared credit balance you top up as needed.

How to use

Figma plugin

  1. Open your Figma file, launch fireworks.to.design from the plugins menu.
  2. Drop or upload your .fw.png document.
  3. Choose the pages to import; remap any missing fonts.
  4. Click Import, then edit the result directly on the canvas.

Web app

  1. Open fireworks.to.design and sign in.
  2. Drop your .fw.png files on the page.
  3. Click "Copy to Figma", then paste into your Figma file.

API

  1. Generate an API key from your ‹div›RIOTS ONE dashboard.
  2. Send the file to the /convert endpoint with input: fw and an output format — figma-clipboard, figma-rest, figma-json, or json — optionally with a range of pages.
  3. Receive the converted result in the response.

FAQ

Which Fireworks files are supported?

Documents saved by Adobe Fireworks as .fw.png — the format Fireworks used from CS3 to CS6. A PNG exported "flattened", or re-saved by another app, no longer carries the document, and is refused with that reason. See Supported input formats.

Why is my .fw.png refused as a flattened PNG?

Fireworks keeps the editable document in private chunks of the PNG; any other app that saves the file drops them, and so does Fireworks' own "Export" to PNG. Open the original, layered file — the one Fireworks shows with its pages and layers — and import that.

Is anything uploaded when I import in the plugin?

No. The plugin reads and converts the file on your machine. Only anonymous usage analytics are sent. If an import fails, you can choose to send that one file for debugging; nothing is uploaded unless you click that button.

How accurate is the conversion?

It reconstructs pages, layers, groups, masks, symbols, editable text, vector paths with their gradients, bitmaps, shadows and glows. Fireworks filters with no Figma equivalent — bevels, embossing, colour adjustments — are imported as the render Fireworks stored for that layer, so they look right but are a picture. See Editability and Limits.

Are fonts preserved?

Text imports as real, editable Figma text, run by run. Fonts the document uses that you don't have in Figma are flagged in the plugin so you can remap them before importing.

Can I import just some pages?

Yes — import every page, or type a range (e.g. 1-3,7), in the plugin or through the API.

Are states, slices and hotspots imported?

No. Each layer imports its first state (frame); slices and hotspots live on the Web Layer, which is export metadata rather than artwork, and is left out.

Is fireworks.to.design free?

Your first five imports are free — the first three pages of each document — no card required. Beyond that, imports draw on a shared ‹div›RIOTS ONE credit balance (see Pricing).
