What it is

eps.to.design converts Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) and PostScript (.ps) files into editable Figma designs — through a Figma plugin, a web tool, or the ‹div›RIOTS API.

Option Output
Figma plugin Figma layers
Web tool Figma layers via clipboard
API Figma layers, or JSON

The Figma plugin requires Figma open; the web tool and the API don't. Full output details in the Output section below.

What it does

Drop in an .eps or a .ps. eps.to.design runs the PostScript program on its own interpreter — no Ghostscript, no Illustrator — and draws it into a PDF, then rebuilds that PDF as native Figma layers: vector paths with their fills and strokes, text, gradients, clipping and images. An EPS is cropped to its bounding box; a PostScript document keeps its pages, each one a frame.

Where it runs

The plugin runs inside Figma — you'll need Figma open to use it (Figma Community). It works in Figma Design, FigJam, Figma Slides and Figma Buzz; in Slides, the artwork is placed centred on the slide.

The web tool runs in your browser, at divriots.com/eps.to.design — no Figma required. Drop a file or click to browse; sign-in required.

The ‹div›RIOTS API runs wherever you call it from — any backend or app that can make an HTTP request. Same engine, exposed as the eps and ps input formats. Full reference: ‹div›RIOTS API documentation.

All three convert on the ‹div›RIOTS API: the plugin sends the file there, then places the result on your canvas.

Supported input formats

Format Extension API input
Encapsulated PostScript .eps eps
PostScript .ps ps

EPS files with a binary (DOS) preview header are read too, as is a PDF saved with an .eps or .ps name. For Adobe Illustrator .ai files, see illustrator.to.design.

Output

Figma plugin

The plugin converts the file, shows its pages in the import dialog, then imports every page into Figma as fully editable layers. A font Figma doesn't have is mapped to the closest one it has (Inter when none is close); the import report lists them, and lets you pick another and apply it.

Web tool

The web tool returns the converted file as Figma layers. Drop your file, wait for the conversion, then copy the result to your clipboard and paste it straight into Figma.

API

Two output formats are available for the eps and ps inputs:

Output format What it is
figma-clipboard Data to load into the clipboard and paste onto the Figma canvas
figma-rest JSON, structurally compatible with the Figma REST API

The input takes an optional range ("1-3,7") to convert only some pages of a PostScript document. Full reference: ‹div›RIOTS API documentation.

Editability

Element Behavior
Vector paths Stay editable vectors, with their fills and strokes — adjust anchor points and reshape without quality loss.
Text Comes back as editable Figma text.
Fonts Embedded fonts are used as is; the 35 standard PostScript fonts are drawn with their real glyphs. Figma needs the font installed for the text to match: otherwise it's mapped to an alternative.
Colour Grey, RGB and CMYK colours.
Gradients and patterns Smooth shadings and patterns come across.
Clipping paths Kept as clipping.
Images Embedded images import as native Figma images.
Pages An EPS is one frame, cropped to its bounding box. A PostScript document is one frame per page.

Limitations

Limitation Value
Drawing time A file is drawn in at most 5 minutes: past it (a program that loops forever, say), the conversion fails and nothing is billed.
Pages in the plugin The plugin imports every page; there's no page picker. The free tier places the first 3.
Fonts Fonts not installed in Figma are mapped to an alternative.
Maximum file size Web tool and API: 10 GB, on every plan. Figma plugin: 500 MB on the free tier, 10 GB on a paid ‹div›RIOTS ONE plan; it refuses anything larger on drop.
API request size Requests sent inline are capped at ~32 MB. For larger files, upload first with POST /convert/upload, then convert by reference — up to the 10 GB ceiling.

Privacy & processing

  • The Figma plugin, the web app and the API convert your file on the ‹div›RIOTS API. The file is stored only for the processing, then deleted, and never used for training.
  • Anonymous usage analytics are captured (on api.divriots.com) to improve the experience.
  • If an import fails, you can choose to send that one file to us for debugging; nothing is uploaded unless you click that button.

Terms and privacy policies for ‹div›RIOTS products are published at divriots.com/legal.

Pricing

Option Free tier Paid
Figma plugin 5 free imports (the first 3 pages, files up to 500 MB) Every page, up to 10 GB, on a paid ‹div›RIOTS ONE plan (Pro or Ultra): 1 credit per import

How to use

Figma plugin

  1. Open your Figma file — or a Figma Slides file — and launch eps.to.design from the plugins menu.
  2. Drag and drop your .eps or .ps file into the plugin, or click Browse to select it.
  3. Check the pages in the import dialog.
  4. Click Import.
  5. Your artwork lands in Figma as editable layers — edit directly on the canvas. If a font was replaced, the import report lets you pick another.

Web tool

  1. Go to divriots.com/eps.to.design.
  2. Drop your .eps or .ps file, or click to browse.
  3. Wait while the file is converted.
  4. Copy the result as Figma layers, then paste it into Figma.

API

  1. Generate an API key in your API settings.
  2. Send a request to the /convert endpoint with input format eps (or ps) and an output format — figma-clipboard or figma-rest.
  3. The conversion runs as a background job (the call returns 202 with a poll Location): poll the job URL until it's done, then download the result.

FAQ

What file types does eps.to.design support?

Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) and PostScript (.ps) files — in the plugin, the web tool and the API (as the eps and ps inputs).

Is the result editable, or a flattened image?

Editable. Paths, text, gradients and images come in as native Figma layers.

Does it need Ghostscript or Illustrator?

No. eps.to.design runs the file on its own PostScript interpreter, on the ‹div›RIOTS API, and draws it into a PDF that is then rebuilt as Figma layers. Nothing to install.

What about an EPS saved by Adobe Illustrator?

It imports like any other EPS. An Illustrator EPS that only Illustrator can draw (one that relies on procedure sets it doesn’t embed) is drawn by our Illustrator engine instead. For .ai files, see illustrator.to.design.

What happens to my fonts?

Text stays editable text. Fonts the file embeds are used as is; the 35 standard PostScript fonts are drawn with their real glyphs. In the plugin, a font Figma doesn’t have is mapped to the closest one it has (Inter when none is close), and the import report lets you pick another and apply it.

Can I import a multi-page PostScript file?

Yes — every page comes in, each as its own frame. The free tier places the first 3 pages; the API takes a range to convert only some.

Can I use eps.to.design without Figma?

Yes — the web tool at divriots.com/eps.to.design runs in your browser. Copy the result as Figma layers, then paste it into Figma when you’re ready. The ‹div›RIOTS API doesn’t need Figma either.

Is there an API for eps.to.design?

Yes — the ‹div›RIOTS API accepts the eps and ps inputs and returns figma-clipboard or figma-rest, for 2 credits per file.

Does it work in FigJam, Figma Slides and Figma Buzz?

Yes — the plugin runs in Figma Design, FigJam, Figma Slides and Figma Buzz. In a Slides file, the artwork is placed on the slide, centred.

Is eps.to.design free?

The plugin includes 5 free imports (the first 3 pages each, files up to 500 MB). Paid ‹div›RIOTS ONE plans (Pro or Ultra) import every page, files up to 10 GB, at 1 credit per import. The web tool and the API cost 2 credits per file, on any ‹div›RIOTS ONE plan — the free one included, with 10 credits a month (20 your first month).
