New psd.to.design update
You export a CMYK print file from Photoshop and drop it into Figma with psd.to.design. This update is about getting the colors that come out to match what you saw in Photoshop. Figma has no native PSD support (see Figma’s supported file formats), so any color conversion happens inside the plugin doing the import — and this release rebuilds how that conversion handles CMYK files.
ℹ️ CMYK is the ink-based color mode (cyan, magenta, yellow, key/black) used in most print and packaging work, while Figma — like any screen-based tool — works in RGB.
Converting accurately between CMYK and RGB is where the new psd.to.design update focuses. Alongside the color work, the plugin now supports a wider range of PSD files: high-bit-depth documents, larger layouts, and more mask and vector configurations.
What’s new
Perfect CMYK color accuracy
The plugin reads the file’s embedded color profile and converts it with high precision, achieving under 1% average color error. This precision covers text fills, vector fills, and layer effects, not just raster pixels, so dark print artwork now reads at true black.
Improved high-bit-depth support
16-bit and 32-bit PSDs — common in photography and detailed illustration work — now bring across every layer bitmap with full fidelity.
Better support for large print files
psd.to.design has always supported larger print files. However, this latest update comes with better support for large files - even of 30,000 x 30,000 px with multiple layers - with more headroom built in for files of this scale.
Better gradient rendering
Scaled, reversed, and reflected gradients now render with the exact direction and scale they were designed with.
Improved mask and vector fidelity
Files with masks or layers extending past the canvas edge, masks with density or feather settings, and vector shape layers now render with the same precision you’d see opening the file in Photoshop or Affinity. Group color overlays now tint only their own group, and Photoshop’s soft line breaks (Shift+Return) now wrap as separate lines.
Why this update matters
Fidelity is the standard we hold all our plugins to — the goal is always that what you see in Figma matches what you built in the source file, down to color, layer structure, and effects. This CMYK update is a good example of what that looks like in practice: color accuracy in print work isn’t a nice-to-have, it’s the difference between a file you can sign off on and one you can’t, so getting it right meant building real color management rather than a rough approximation.
Most of these improvements trace back to real files that you, our users, sent in — not synthetic test cases. The CMYK work went through several rounds of refinement to reach this level of precision, and each edge case that came up along the way was folded into the fix.
